MCF Discovery Team 2024

On our way home……… “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”  2 Corinthians 9:15 This verse caught my attention simply for the word “indescribable.’  Of course one never knows what each day will bring, but I think we can all agree that this 13 day adventure in Kenya was just that - indescribable!  We have seen some things that have humbled us, entertained us, fed us and challenged us.  We are going home as different people with this experience in our backpacks.   The Lord called each of us and we responded to His question  “Whom shall I send?”   We went, we served, we learned. As a consequence of this trip, I believe the Lord has planted a seed in our hearts that will mature and bear fruit. Personally, I am simply grateful for each member of our team!  What an amazing group the Lord has brought together!  I have the greatest admiration for parent in how you are bringing up your children (or have already completed that task!) to know...

Albert had initially planned for our devotional as an activity to walk along the walls lined with quotes at MCF Ndalani and choose one quote that speaks to us and share it with the group. However, due to changes in departure plans he took pictures and asked us to reflect and share with our family. We wanted to share the quotes as well and hope they speak to you as they do to us.

  Our day started with another hearty Kenyan breakfast with sweet pancakes.  Corn is a staple food in Kenya, so wheat dishes are special!  Then we were off to visit the farm in Yatta, Mulli College, and the hospital construction site.   Lois, the Operations Manager at Yatta, gave us an extensive tour of the organic farm at Yatta.  She explained the six components of organic farming, the tree planting initiative (MCF has already planed 20 million trees), the water purification system, the dams for backup water supply during the dry season, and the enormous greenhouses where cabbages, kale, and tomatoes grow.  They are able to get up to 4 harvests a year!  Next we visited the banana orchard, the fish farm, and the poultry farm.   What is evident is that there is so much care and thought put into producing healthy organic foods for the children.   Next we were treated to a catered lunch prepared for and served to us by the hospitality students o...

Please pray specifically for safety for David and Vicky as they are leaving Kenya today. Their flights have changed due to the recent resuming of protests in Nairobi.  They are leaving Ndalani at 4:30am today for their 6pm flight in anticipation of the protests.  Also pray for this beautiful country and its people. We have heard several stories of children being displaced due to political unrest; at the same time we heard of God’s hand of protection around MCF during the chaotic 2007-2008 political unrest.  Post about our July 22 excursion to Yatta will be coming soon… stay tune. 

  After another hearty Kenyan breakfast, our team attended the church service in the chapel with the children and a 100+ delegation from the Salvation Army from the Kongo Corps.   It was a lively service filled with lots of beautiful singing and gospel dancing from the various children choirs.  We were so surprised to see that the passage the sermon was based on was Isaiah 6:1-8, which included the very verse we had chosen for our team T-shirts (Isaiah 6:8).   We can see God’s hand in orchestrating our visit on this very day to such intricate detail.  After almost 2 hours of singing it was finally time for the sermon.  The preacher was Lieutenant Nicholas from the Salvation Army who delivered a passionate and (very) loud sermon based on two questions from God: “Who will I send?” and “Where are you?”.  The answer is a personal one, but a reminder that no matter our story or our circumstances, God has a unique plan for you to glorify Him and extend His l...

 Today we had a nice breakfast consisting of cereal, fresh-cut fruit, and vegetables. After breakfast, Tom and Angela continued our tour of MCF Ndalani. They brought us to see the original Jacobs Well where Dr. Charles Mully found the water source to sustain his growing family. We also visited the farm fields of corn, cabbage, and kale, and visited the poultry farm.   An hour before lunch, half of our group went to play with Mully’s children with the volleyballs, soccer balls, frisbees, bubbles, and parachutes we brought. Immediately, a lot of boys helped themselves with soccer balls and started playing with their brothers and sisters, as it was a familiar sport to them. With the rest of the sports or games, Mully’s children were a bit more hesitant but soon warmed up. Plenty of the kids recognized members of the MCF team and they were able to interact more.
