Our day started with another hearty Kenyan breakfast with sweet pancakes. Corn is a staple food in Kenya, so wheat dishes are special! Then we were off to visit the farm in Yatta, Mulli College, and the hospital construction site.
Lois, the Operations Manager at Yatta, gave us an extensive tour of the organic farm at Yatta. She explained the six components of organic farming, the tree planting initiative (MCF has already planed 20 million trees), the water purification system, the dams for backup water supply during the dry season, and the enormous greenhouses where cabbages, kale, and tomatoes grow. They are able to get up to 4 harvests a year! Next we visited the banana orchard, the fish farm, and the poultry farm. What is evident is that there is so much care and thought put into producing healthy organic foods for the children.
Next we were treated to a catered lunch prepared for and served to us by the hospitality students of Mully College. We were treated as honoured guests, and we were seated in a large U-shape table like a UN convention. We listened to the testimony of the beneficiary who now heads up the hospitality program at Mully College. We met with the principal who talked to us about Mully College, where beneficiaries can get free training in various trades after they complete Grade 12 free of charge. Daddy Mully prepares his kids to be self-sufficient people in the community.
Then we were off to the construction site of the Mully Hospital. It was a new experience for all of us to visit a construction site (and without hard hats!). Anything goes in Kenya! The plan for the hospital is for there to be three blocks, with Blocks A and B to be for the treatment of patients. The concrete structure of the buildings have been erected, so we were able to tour the future children’s wing. We even climbed multiple flights of stairs to the roof of the building and were careful not to step too close to the edge! It was the opportunity of a lifetime.
The construction work on the building was paused since May because they had run out of funding, but would resume tomorrow thanks to securing more funding. Mully Hospital is funded by faith. They are praying for the finds to complete the project in 2 years. It is clear that Charles Mully has big dreams and brings them to reality. He is the Walt Disney of the non-profit world. Then back on the bus to MCF. We said goodbye to our incredibly humorous and jubilant host Tom who has been with us from the moment we landed m as we dropped him off on our way home.
Finally we returned to MCF where the children were waiting for us to perform their talent show! And what a splendid display of singing, dancing, acrobatics, and karate it was! We all got front row seats! It was so beautiful to see how so many of the children had the opportunity to nurture their talents to such a high level of performance! And for the glory of God. Mummy Esther led us through our final farewell and prayer for children. It felt like it was too soon to leave MCF.
At our final dinner together as a team, we met Dondo and Grace (Daddy Mully’s daughters) and thanked our gracious hosts Angela and Kennedy (Safari), and Jemimah who accompanied us throughout our stay. And special thanks to Janey for preparing all our meals and even or super early packed breakfast for the following morning. We have felt such love and welcome by MCF from the day we landed in Kenya. We will miss all the dear friends we have made on this trip! This is not goodbye, but see you again either at our MCF home our in our heavenly home.
As it turned out the planned protest in Nairobi were to take place at the Nairobi airport, so part of our team found out later tonight they had to leave at 4:30 am to get to the airport before the protestors started blocking access. The rest of the team would leave at 6:00am. We missed our group hug, but will plan for a reunion for that hug. We thank God for assembling this team for this discovery trip at MCF. It has been a tremendous joy and privilege to visit MCF together.
