Simply Grateful

On our way home………

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
2 Corinthians 9:15

This verse caught my attention simply for the word “indescribable.’  Of course one never knows what each day will bring, but I think we can all agree that this 13 day adventure in Kenya was just that - indescribable!  We have seen some things that have humbled us, entertained us, fed us and challenged us.  We are going home as different people with this experience in our backpacks.

The Lord called each of us and we responded to His question “Whom shall I send?”  We went, we served, we learned. As a consequence of this trip, I believe the Lord has planted a seed in our hearts that will mature and bear fruit.

Personally, I am simply grateful for each member of our team!  What an amazing group the Lord has brought together!  I have the greatest admiration for parent in how you are bringing up your children (or have already completed that task!) to know and serve the Lord and how important your faith is to each of you.  I have learned much and been inspired.  Below is a short list of things that I am simply grateful for…….
  • Amy as Co-lead, organizing tshirts, journals, monitoring back & forth correspondence with Kenya and for posting our blog each day
  • Ventura, Yenting, Joshua for the Canada presentations.  Well done!
  • Melody, Danielle and Elyse for the snowflake crafts
  • Vincent for organizing the Safari, playing his ukulele at devotions and preparing our slideshow (so sorry we had tech issues!)
  • Tauyee, Yenting and Leeting for the music videos and forcing us to move our bodies!
  • Tauyee for her frequent sanitizer sprintz!
  • Vincent and Tauyee for their hospitality at pre-trip meetings
  • David for his office fund raising and great photography
  • David and Vicky for getting us going on our music and hosting us for our packing party
  • Albert for ordering all the outdoor play equipment and introducing it to the children
  • For those who prepared daily devotions and faithfully provided blog posts
  • For all those who spontaneously stepped up to pray
  • That Joshua’s accident was not serious
  • That our young people have built some strong relationships that may last a lifetime
  • That Robert recovered and I’m almost there!
My prayer these last few years has been 'to be used' and the Lord has placed me in some truly unique, faith-enriching experiences.  This one is no different.  It has been an “indescribable gift” to get to know each of you and be of service to you.  I praise God for His orchestration of our team.  Thank you for your patience with me and your overwhelming support.

As we travel home, let us always remember the numerous “God sightings” that we have experienced.  May it serve to strengthen our faith and may the Lord continue to work on our hearts as we process this journey.

Prayer Requests:

- That the Lord would use these 13 days to impact the trajectory of our lives
- That there would be physical healing for those that were challenged and that our adjustment to a normal routine would be comfortable
- That blessings would flow to those at MCF who served us so well
- That the work of MCF Kenya would be enabled and equipped to fulfill the complete vision that the Lord has placed on the heart of Charles Mully

Slums, travelling, trains and team building

We started with breakfast in the hotel and devotions as a group on the hotel patio. We are blessed that the Lin family brought their Ukulele and even prepared song sheets!  Our prayer as a group is for God to open our eyes and hearts so that we can see Him and His work specifically in Kenya.  We desire that His Name is lifted high and glorified in all we do.  Open the eyes of my heart, Lord Open the eyes of my heart I want to see You I want to see You To see You high and lifted up Shinin' in the light of Your glory Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy Please join us in praying Ephesian 1:17-20 that as a group, God will give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. We also had time as a group to practice our Canada presentations and the younger members demonstrated how to construct our cool snowflake arts and craft.  Even though our plans were changed and we could not enter Kibera slums our MCF hosts explained the history of the slums and also took ...

Why we are going...

Thank you for joining us on this journey as we prepare our trip to visit MCF.   We have had had two meetings to learn and prepare for our trip. For our opening devotional, Jane, our team leader, shared a very powerful devotional from the book Helping without Hurting by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert.                                                          We also  spent our first gathering watching the movie about Charles Mully and how God has used his life to bless, rescue and redeem homeless children from the streets of Nairobi.    Link to the movie on youtube                             At our second meeting,  we spent time as a team sharing with each other why we are individually going on this trip.  Our group purpose statement for the...

Praying, Preparing and Packing

Our team gathered to meet in June and to reflect on our group passage Isaiah 6:8, prepare our expectations well as learn about Kenyan culture.  We chose the passage from Isaiah 6:8, as it represents our response to God's invitation to join and see His work in Kenya through Mully's Children's Family. We are reminded as we read the whole Chapter 6 that Isaiah encountered our holy, Lord Almighty and instantly confesses his unworthiness, particularly his lips. Yet by God's grace, the Lord sends a seraphim to cleanse Isaiah and takes away all his guilt.  Then God asks, "Whom shall I send? And who will go with us?" Isaiah responds, "Here I am. Send me" and becomes one of God's prophets, using his mouth to proclaim God's good news.  Please pray for our group to have our thoughts, intentions, desires cleansed and purified so that we can be used by God.  Please pray for our group to be flexible, humble, adaptable and teachable.  Today we gathered to p...
