Our Day visiting the MCF Malindi Campus

After a restful night in our comfortable rooms, we woke up refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Early morning routines varied among team members, reflecting our diverse interests. Some of the athletically inclined started their day with the 5's – a 5 km run around 5 am, completed in under 25 minutes.

Others engaged in early turtle-spotting walks, some had added conversations with locals on the beach, while yet others enjoyed a well-deserved lie-in until breakfast:-).

We convened to share a hearty breakfast that introduced local delicacies like pan-fried mchicha (fresh locally picked leafy green, most similar to spinach) and mandazi (a delicious deep-fried bread).   We were so thankful for God's healing hand over Robert enabling him to join breakfast fellowship with our entire team🙏🙏!

Dave then led our group devotions with a message about “making a difference” and seizing opportunities, sharing a Christian perspective on the starfish story.

Our bus ride to the Malindi MCF campus was a short 20-minute journey.  This campus “is a scale-up residential outreach program for identification, protection, and empowerment of teenage mothers and their babies and toddlers.  The program seeks to rescue, rehabilitate, and cater to educational and social needs of the vulnerable girls dropping out of school due to anti-social influences and lack of opportunities in education.”

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by many of the young mothers and their children.

After a tour of the MCF campus, we split into five groups to share about Canada with the moms, followed by serving them lunch.

We were struck by the engagement, curiosity, and many many insightful questions by the young mothers during the presentations.

After lunch, we continued to witness the many gifts that the Lord has bestowed on these students. Some team members provided manicures.

While others were inspired by the testimonies of six MCF students, reflecting on Daddy Mulli’s vision and the Lord's work in this community.

The afternoon ended with music, songs, dances, and an original play performed by the MCF Malindi students.  This was followed by our team singing (O Canada plus 2 songs) and the sharing of our care packages.  We prayerfully hope the journals will encourage them to reflect and document their testimonies and stories, serving as a source of gratitude and inspiration for all that the Lord has provided.

Words cannot adequately express the exhilaration, energy, and enthusiasm we experienced today were a demonstration of the depth of their love and joy with God in their hearts. We look forward to hearing more about these lives touched by the Lord.

We came here to serve, but we left feeling profoundly blessed and served ourselves.

Slums, travelling, trains and team building

We started with breakfast in the hotel and devotions as a group on the hotel patio. We are blessed that the Lin family brought their Ukulele and even prepared song sheets!  Our prayer as a group is for God to open our eyes and hearts so that we can see Him and His work specifically in Kenya.  We desire that His Name is lifted high and glorified in all we do.  Open the eyes of my heart, Lord Open the eyes of my heart I want to see You I want to see You To see You high and lifted up Shinin' in the light of Your glory Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy Please join us in praying Ephesian 1:17-20 that as a group, God will give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. We also had time as a group to practice our Canada presentations and the younger members demonstrated how to construct our cool snowflake arts and craft.  Even though our plans were changed and we could not enter Kibera slums our MCF hosts explained the history of the slums and also took ...

Why we are going...

Thank you for joining us on this journey as we prepare our trip to visit MCF.   We have had had two meetings to learn and prepare for our trip. For our opening devotional, Jane, our team leader, shared a very powerful devotional from the book Helping without Hurting by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert.                                                          We also  spent our first gathering watching the movie about Charles Mully and how God has used his life to bless, rescue and redeem homeless children from the streets of Nairobi.    Link to the movie on youtube                             At our second meeting,  we spent time as a team sharing with each other why we are individually going on this trip.  Our group purpose statement for the...

Praying, Preparing and Packing

Our team gathered to meet in June and to reflect on our group passage Isaiah 6:8, prepare our expectations well as learn about Kenyan culture.  We chose the passage from Isaiah 6:8, as it represents our response to God's invitation to join and see His work in Kenya through Mully's Children's Family. We are reminded as we read the whole Chapter 6 that Isaiah encountered our holy, Lord Almighty and instantly confesses his unworthiness, particularly his lips. Yet by God's grace, the Lord sends a seraphim to cleanse Isaiah and takes away all his guilt.  Then God asks, "Whom shall I send? And who will go with us?" Isaiah responds, "Here I am. Send me" and becomes one of God's prophets, using his mouth to proclaim God's good news.  Please pray for our group to have our thoughts, intentions, desires cleansed and purified so that we can be used by God.  Please pray for our group to be flexible, humble, adaptable and teachable.  Today we gathered to p...
